The work of alien life forms, or something else?
The origin of these mysterious shapes in the desert is unknown. Explanations range from
space aliens (my clear preference!), to a lost tribe of natives, to a practical joke. Click on the map below to

We started out at Nasca International Airport where we caught one of the planes shown
below.
The flight took us over scenic downtown Nasca (2nd and 3rd pictures from the left) over some very stark
desert. This is one of the most arid regions on the earth, and the only reason there is
green is that the snow melt from the mountains provides water for the rivers and that,
in turn, is used for irrigation. But there's no rain here. Zip. Nada.
Regardless of who made the lines, here are some pictures from about 8,000 feet. It's said that
lines are invisible from the ground. All of the line formations have been named for
what they obviously look like (the dog, the monkey, the spider, etc.). Make up your own
