Flight to Cape May, June 12, 2004

It was such a beautiful day. Hike or Fly? A real toughie. Flying finally won out. I noticed a couple of things as I left the pattern at South Jersey and turned south at 1,000'. First of all, I could see Atlantic City which is not all that common. Second of all, I could make out Cape May and a column of black smoke (this from a little more than 50 nautical miles out).

It turns out that a 62' yacht with 900 gallons of fuel on board was on fire. Nobody was hurt. Anyway, here are some pictures I took today. As I started heading north the fire appeared to be out as the picture with Wildwood/Cape May Airport (KWWD) shows. The last picture is Atlantic City from the west.
